 | Núñez Fined, Suspended After Outburst Saturday, September 14th, 2013: Jacksonville starting pitcher Santiago Núñez was suspended by the league for his angry rant during a press conference two days ago. Núñez, who verbally assaulted reporters gathered for the post-game Q and A session, will serve a 3-game suspension and will be fined an undisclosed sum for his actions. "It's fair", commented Santiago Núñez after the decision was handed down. "Honestly, I'm very lucky I didn't receive a longer suspendion for what I did." Núñez, who was much more gracious and civil with reporters today, took full responsibility for his previous behavior. "My actions were stupid and unforgiveable," he added. "Frankly, I'm embarrassed that I let myself lose control like that. You guys were just doing your jobs. I apologize to anyone who witnessed that ugliness. And not just the media, but the league, the organization, and the fans. I'll try to keep it together better next time." The apology seemed to satisfy his manager. "I truly believe he's sincerely sorry," said Jacks skipper Gilbe rto Madrid. "We all say things we regret from time to time, but he owned up to his mistake. Hopefully, we all can all just move on from this now and concentrate on winning some ballgames." | |
