 | Smashing Success: Carranzo Wallops 3 HR Saturday, September 14th, 2013: Orlando Carranzo of the Eureka Hornets had a lot to celebrate in today's 12-0 win over the Washington Capitalists. Three times he celebrated by pounding the ball out of The Nest.
He kiddingly told reporters after the game, "Hopefully, I can continue to close my eyes and swing as hard as I can. It worked well today."
The powerful Eureka right fielder tagged 4 hits in 5 at-bats, drove in 6 runs and scored 3 times in his three-home-run outburst.
Carranzo added, "Seriously, I just try to swing early and often to give myself a chance. I let the pitcher supply all the power, I just try to figure out how to get the bat on the ball."
"We talked about changing our strategy for the third one... and then he hit another homer," the Washington manager said. "We just couldn't get him out."
Orlando Carranzo grounded out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Pat Leaper in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Pat Leaper in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off Jason Elliott in the 7th.
This year Carranzo has socked 165 hits in 563 at-bats for a .293 average with 22 home runs. He is getting on base at a .352 pace and his totals also include 91 RBIs and 89 runs scored. | |
